Prospective Students
Facilities
The Department operates four major computer laboratories. These lab facilities are located in Ryerson Physical Laboratory, and in the lower level of the Regenstein Library. Students in the Masters Program receive computer accounts to access both the Department's and the University's computer resources.
The 4th floor of Ryerson Laboratory houses a laboratory created exclusively for the students in the Masters Program. Workstations run Linux or Windows XP in a dual boot configuration, or Linux exclusively. There are more than 35 workstations, plus facilities that support wired or wireless laptops. Students can access these machines from outside the UChicago domain via the SSH protocol and have access from home.
Most computing resources are also available through remote connections (dialup, DSL, etc). The Department and the Computation Institute also house several research labs that welcome students from the CSPP program that are interested in participating in their research projects. For more information visit the sites of the Systems Lab, the High Performance Computing Lab, and the Distributed Systems Lab.
