This bootcamp is strongly recommended for all new MPCS students who do not already have a background in UNIX. This workshop will provide the necessary UNIX and Linux competency for MPCS coursework. UNIX/Linux are required for a large majority of MPCS courses, and competency will help ensure your success. This will be a hands-on workshop, bring your laptop. Lunch will be provided.
If you are a new MPCS Full-Time student, you should register for the UNIX Bootcamp on Tuesday, September 13th There will be a second offering of this bootcamp on Saturday, October 1st, from 10:00am - 2:00pm, for those that can not attend the first date. Joint MBA/MPCS student and Part-Time students will be given registration priority for the Saturday, October 1st session.
The workshop will consist of both presentation and interactive exercises, with opportunity for hands-on assistance. The topics we will cover are:
- Navigating the filesystem
- File permissions
- Process management
- Bash shell configuration and scripting
- Remote authentication
- Language-specific configurations for C/C++, Python, and Java
The UNIX Bootcamp will be taught by Rafi Almhana, Assistant Clinical Professor in the Masters Program in Computer Science.
