Registration

An email will be sent to the masters-students mailing list to announce that the pre-registration survey is open.  This will take place during week 5 of the previous quarter.  

• MPCS administration will review requests to determine what registrations are approved.  
• Prerequisites must be met to be approved to be pre-registered for a class.
• Waitlist will be established based on student’s bids and class enrollment limits.
• Students will be registered during week 7 before the registration period opens.

• Effective the Spring 2023 quarter, Joint MBA/MPCS students are able to add and drop classes using the student portal (https://portal.uchicago.edu/ais/).  
• Joint MBA/MPCS students must still complete the pre-registration survey as all MPCS students do so.  During the registration period, students will be able to make changes on their own.
• The MPCS Registration form is used to add yourself to a waitlist; to drop a MPCS class during the second and third week; or unless given instructions to use the form for any other registration purpose. 

The registration period allows students to register for classes if they did not submit any pre-registration selections and make adjustments to their pre-registration selections.  

• Students can access their registration schedule using the student portal (https://portal.uchicago.edu/ais/).  
• The registration period opens at 8:30am on the Monday of week 8 of the previous quarter.  The registration period closes at 5pm on the Friday of week 8 of the previous quarter.
• A hold on an account will prevent students from registering for classes. (https://registrar.uchicago.edu/records/holds/) 

• Students who are selected for a practicum will be emailed by Professor Binkowski
• Students will use the Registration form to confirm registration for MPCS 57010 MPCS Practicum and to state if another class needs to be dropped
• Students will be registered for MPCS 57010 MPCS Practicum before the start of the quarter.

• Students must request approval to take a non-MPCS class (Course Request Form for Non-MPCS Classes)
• If approved, students can register for graduate level classes on their own.  For undergraduate level classes i.e...200-level CMSC class, must submit request using the Course Registration form.
• Students must check if the course requires instructor’s approval and prerequisites.  Submit instructor’s approval to kczaplew@uchicago.edu, otherwise this could delay the registration process and student could lose a spot in the class.

• Students must request approval to take a non-MPCS class (Course Request Form for Non-MPCS Classes)
• Review Booth’s registration policy for non-Booth students (https://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/taking-courses-at-booth) 
• Booth will register students directly. If registered for a MPCS class as a placeholder.  We must process the drop rquest for the placeholder class by using the MPCS Registration Form.

• Students will have access to make changes to their registration through the student portal
• Last week to request to take a class outside the MPCS
• Waitlisted students will be contacted as spots become available or if instructor allows additional students into a class.

• Student registration should be set
• Last week for students may be added from a waitlist.  
• Students can only make changes using the MPCS Registration Form.
• To add a class, even from a waitlist:
  • You attended all class sessions that have met
  • Must be able to submit any homework assignment that may be due
  • Must have the instructor’s approval.  Email from the instructor should be sent to kczaplew@uchicago.edu

• Last week to drop a class with a 100% tuition refund
  • If dropping the only class you are registered for, you will be responsible for paying the Student Service fee
• Requests to drop a class must be done using the MPCS Registration Form.
• Students can not add a class unless under extreme circumstances

• Students can not add a class to their registration
• Students may drop a class with the following penalties:
  • Responsible for 100% tuition
  • Class will remain on official transcript with a “W”
• A class must be dropped before the final exam or before the due date of the final project.

• Students must request to be term deactivated for the quarters they do not registered for classes
• Waives the Student Service Fee
• ID access will be deactivated during the quarter.  ID will only be reactivated again when register for classes again.  No exceptions.
